It is believed the house existed prior to the period and the Hornibrooks were significantly involved in a noted War of Independence event with the property subsequently burnt down in 1922. It was re-built some time thereafter and has a long history of interesting custodians ranging from medical, military and academics with the most prominent of those being professor Daniel Corkery who resided in the house from 1929 to 1950. Like all period properties Ballygromans custodians all left their mark on the property and was purchased by its’ current owners in 1997 who resided in the property for almost a decade until they made the momentous and significant decision to re-build the property from the ground up undertaking an extensive and enormous building project delivering an ‘A’ rated home between the front and back walls of the original house.
